Piranha Bytes managed to change the old RPG concepts of leveling, the old strength, dexterity, mana etc with new ones. We have as main stats (attributes) in Risen 2, blades, firearms, toughness, cunning and voodoo.
We will explain each of them, how to improve them, why to improve them and how many points you need for each of them, mostly if you want to play and finish the game as melee.
Blades. This stat goes for the main fighting ability, with slashing, piercing swords, spears. As you assign points into blades, you will be able to learn new moves like counter-attack, fast attack, kick etc.
Besides the new moves, your damage will also be increased with more and more points.
If you plan to play Risen 2 as melee, you should maximize this stat up to 10 (maximum). There are certain items and plants that can increase the correspondent skills for blades.
Firearms. The range combat stat. Works the same as blades but will increase your efficiency with firearms. With more points, you will do more damage and have a lesser chance to miss your target in combat.
Toughness. This is the defensive stat. Also it affects your ability to intimidate targets, an aspect that is fun.
It is highly required if you play as melee, it will reduce the damage you take from blades, ranged weapons etc.
Around 6 points should be enough to finish the game as if you have 10 points in blades, the enemies should not be able to hit you too much.
Cunning. This stat affects your ability to unlock chests, pickpocket and silver tongue (manipulate other NPCs so they will do what you want).
If you want tons of gold, this is the stat to take. Also it is very fun and being a thief is one of the greatest aspect of the video games released by Piranha Bytes. Around 6-7 points should be enough to open any chest and steal from any NPC as there are amulets and rings that will boost the skills corespondent to cunning.
Voodoo. The stat for the old mana, the way of playing a mage. Even if you don’t play the game as a voodoo wizard, there will be plenty of missions that involves voodoo. These quests won’t require voodoo skills. If you plan to play the game as melee or range, you can ignore voodoo completely.
To conclude. Blades vs firearms vs toughness vs cunning vs voodoo. To finish the game as melee, you will need 9-10 points into blades, 5-6 into toughness. You can ignore firearms and voodoo. Cunning is too fun not to use its benefits.
If you assign points into both blades and firearms you will have to drop cunning.
So, you can get one stat to maximum and other two near maximum, 6-7-8 if you complete almost all the quests. Mobs will respawn after you leave and come back to an island (monkeys, jaguars etc) but it might be boring just to grind them.
