nvidia PhysX for Risen 2, the game starting on the second monitor issue

27.04.2012

Risen 2 is experiencing a technical issue if your system has more than a monitor, it won’t start on the primary monitor. The second issue is with nVidia PhysX that if is not installed on your PC, the game will give this error, “The program can’t start because PhysXLoader.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem”.

You can download nVidia PhysX from here. You can also install PhysX when you install the game. In case you miss or cancel the PhysX installation process, just download it and install it from the nVidia’s website.

DirectX is not required from the initial installation, Windows 7 should already have DirectX updated and compatible with Risen 2. Notice that AMD Catalyst drivers for ATI video cards don’t include nVidia PhysX.

Regarding the second issue. If you start the game on a PC that has 2 or 3 monitors and the game starts on the second monitor, not on the primary one, you can do some tweaks in order to fix the issue and these tweaks will not harm or affect too much your PC.

Right click on desktop (for Windows 7), screen resolution, select the monitor where Risen 2 is starting and select, “Make this my main display”. Notice that the desktops will switch among the two monitors.

To revert the monitor change, select your main monitor and select again “Make this my main display”.

Better solution to the two screen thing is to go to config file in c:\Users\\AppData\Local\Risen2\Config\ConfigUser.xm

first few lines looks like this:

you need to add a line

AdapterNumber=”0″ and it will launch on your primary screen!

@szymonescu, didn’t worked for me matey.
Anyway, for those who don’t know, by default, AppData is hidden. You can see it by going into Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Folder Options, View, click to view.

Another important thing, if you run the game on the wrong monitor after the config is modified, all the settings will get reset, including for graphic quality.
