Many are making fun of those that ask this question, “can Kindle be used in the dark”, for night reading.
The answer is simple, as Kindle is using an e-ink screen and not a LCD screen, it doesn’t have a light source on the screen.
This issue can be fixed very easy by buying a special Kindle leather cover that comes with a light source.
The price for a cover like this is pretty high though, almost half the price as for the Kindle.
The Kindle covers are high quality, made of high quality leather that will last through years, a cover like this also doesn’t add too much weight for the Kindle, the device can be held without much effort in one hand and reading will still be enjoyable.
As for the battery drain, the light source will drain the battery 3 or 4 times faster but you can still use your Kindle for a week without charging it, assuming that you read around 2-3 hours per day.
Another solution is to buy a simple lamp that will be attached to your Kindle by a clip system. The issue here is that you might not get the desired light intensity and also you have to constantly buy batteries. The Kindle leather cover doesn’t need batteries, it will take power from the Kindle (it has a mechanism on the back).
Also regarding the light intensity from the Kindle leather cover, is not the same as reading from a LCD screen but still good, you won’t have much trouble reading in the dark.
