Hunter class in 5.0.4, all you need to know for PVP, spec, talent tree, glyphs, macros, addons

Patch 5.0.4 was released today and nothing really works, starting from addons and getting to advanced macros.
This article will talk about the hunter class in this new patch, from a PVP view.

WoW hunter logo

Most important. Even though Ghostcrawler has announced not so long ago that aspects are off the global cooldown again and that they are macroable, the old macros don’t work like they should and you should start switching aspects manually if you had macros before the patch.

Talent tree.

Hunter talent tree

Level 15
Posthaste, the old Marksman effect, will increase the running speed after Disengage.
Narrow escape, will snare the enemy targets for 8 seconds.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimera, the old beast master talent.

Narrow escape is new, but since many classes can remove snares very easily, is quite useless. Also it is useless if you use the new Explosive Trap glyph because having the enemies in a web, Explosive Trap won’t work (knock-back). Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimera can be quite powerful and better than Posthaste.

Level 30
Silencing Shot, old Marksman ability.
Wyvern Sting, old Survival ability.
Binding Shot, new ability, will stun enemies if they move more than 5 yards.

Binding Shot is more fun than useful, hunters already have Ice Trap as an AOE snare (this is a stun though). 1vs1, Silencing Shot is one of the few weapons that hunters have against casters so Silencing Shot is the best choice.
Wyvern Sting could make a difference in arena games though, considering the CC potential.

Level 45
Exhilaration, heals the hunter for 30% hp and the pet for 100%.
Aspect of the Iron Hawk, a new aspect that increases the attack power by 10% and reduces the damage taken by the hunter by 15%.
Spirit Bond, old Beast Master talent.

Aspect of the Iron Hawk can be the worst choice so far until you get used to the changes. When you kite, you usually are in Aspect of the Fox. This is situational though. A very important fact is that all the macros that are switching to the Aspect of the Hawk ability should now be renamed inside the macros to “Aspect of the Iron Hawk” or they will not work. Spirit Bound is a good choice for now.

Level 60
Fervor, restores focus, old Beast Master ability.
Dire Beast, summons a powerful pet that will fight along the hunter.
Thrill of the Hunt, 30% chance when you shot anything to reduce the focus cost for Arcane Shot or Kill Command by 20, three times.

Thrill of the Hunt and Dire Beast are almost on the same level in terms of burst only that Dire Beast requires one more button to press while Thrill of the Hunt is passive.
Depends on everyone’s taste but Dire Beast can look fun at this time.

Level 75
A Murder of Crows, probably a “A Song of Ice and Fire” reference, will summon crows that will damage an enemy target. Requires 60 focus.
Blink Strike, will make the pet to teleport behind the target and inflict 600% normal damage.
Lynx Rush, a fun looking ability, like the cat lady boss from Ulduar (Wrath of the Lich King raid), the pet will rapidly attack an enemy target 9 times inflicting 200% normal damage each time.

For BM spec, Blink Strike is a great choice for arena, the pet can finish an enemy that runs behind a pillar, also burst the damage when is needed besides Kill Command.
Both Blink Strike and Lynx Rush don’t cost focus which are making them the best choice at this time comparing them to A Murder of Crows that costs 60 focus. Lynx Rush could be fun for Marksman hunters considering that they don’t have a ferocity pet for Blink Strike.

These are all the abilities available at the moment, except the Mists of Pandaria ones that will be available at level 90.

Hunter Glyphs

Those that are not mentioned are pretty bad for PVP.

Major glyphs.

Camouflage will make the hunter 100% stealth mode but will reduce the movement speed by 50%. A good choice but 50% will make us pretty slow which isn’t fun for a fast class as the hunter is.

Chimera Shot, increases the healing amount provided by Chimera Shot with 2%, a good choice.

Disengage, increases the distance traveled. Quite useless for PVP.

Explosive Trap, the most fun thing that this patch brought. Definitely a must have glyph. You will be able to knock-back enemies, throw them over bridges and hills, also a good weapon to keep the enemy at distance.

Mirrored Blades, finally, useful now as a glyph since Survival is not the best spec for PVP. Another fun glyph that can return a spell casted by the enemy directly to him. A very good choice because is fun at the moment.

Minor Glyphs.

Fireworks, is just fun.

Revive Pet, old glyph, still useful sometimes.

Fetch, not sure how it works yet but looks like fun.

Hunter 5.0.4 Macros

Hunter macros

Aspect macros are not working since the global cooldown on aspect switch is on live realms.

Aspect of the Hawk and summon pet 1 (will disable Aspect of the Hawk due to the global cooldown, summoning pet is sharing the global cooldown)

/cast Aspect of the Hawk
/cast [nopet,nomod, Aspect of the Hawk] Call Pet 1

Pet Attack and Dire Beast

/cast Dire Beast
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();

Lynx Rush and Arcane Shot

#showtooltip Arcane Shot
/cast Arcane Shot
/cast Lynx Rush
/cast Lynx Rush
/cast [nocombat, nomounted] Tyrael’s Charger
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();

Aspect of the Fox macro and call pet 1 (not working to summon pet atm, will update)

/cast !Aspect of the Fox
/cast [nopet,nomod] Call Pet 1
/cast [@pet,dead] Heart of the Phoenix
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();

Aspect of the Hawk macro and call pet 1 (not working to summon pet atm, will update)

/cast !Aspect of the Hawk
/cast [nopet,nomod] Call Pet 1
/cast [@pet,dead] Heart of the Phoenix
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();

Scatter Shot + Trap updated. The exclamation sign (!) will make Trap Launcher to be active all the time.

#showtooltip Scatter Shot
/cast [@focus,exists][@target] Scatter Shot
/castsequence reset=3 !Trap Launcher

The old stop casting macros on Aimed Shot, Kill Shot, Chimera Shot, Silencing Shot, Concussive Shot.
Example for Aimed shot. All are now macroed without aspect switching.

/cast Aimed Shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();

Replace “Aimed Shot” with other spell names to create macros for those too.

Steady Shot macro + will /mount if your character is not in combat.

#showtooltip Steady Shot
/cast Steady Shot
/cast Steady Shot
/cast [nocombat, nomounted] Mekgineer’s Chopper
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();

Arcane Shot and flying mount.

#showtooltip Arcane Shot
/cast Arcane Shot
/cast [nocombat, nomounted] Tyrael’s Charger
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear();

These are pretty much all the macros that are updated. If anything important will come up, we will update.

Power Auras Classic – not working atm. will update with configs. Currently is causing lag and framerate drop.

Hunter Focus Bar. Will place a focus bar under your character or anywhere on the screen. Great for tracking focus as a resource. Works with drag and drop if the shift or control key is holded.
Download HunterFocusBar from here. It is outdated but still works.
