How to play Wolfenstein 3D in browser?

10.05.2012

In order to celebrate 20 years since the first release, Bethesda Softworks has released today, the browser playable version for the old Wolfenstein 3D, a perfect replica on small resolution though (the game might look pretty bad on high resolutions).

Here are a few tips for those who decided to try the game in browser, either for nostalgia or just to see how the game works in a browser.

The control is very friendly, we cannot change the forward, left, right buttons and assign them to the default gaming keys used for moving (A W S D), we can move using the keyboard arrows, fire using the left mouse click and aim also using the mouse. Last key that is important, is the space key that is used to open doors (works as an “use” command).

You can use the escape key to navigate through the menu, start the game on any level you want (the same thing was available for the initial MS DOS video game).

For those who don’t know what Wolfenstein 3D is, this game was the first video game to use a 3D perspective, was one of the first games that couldn’t fit on a floppy disk.

The web address from where you can access the game and play it for free is http://wolfenstein.bethsoft.com, looks like is not flash, it is actually java.

Wolfenstein 3D is a very important game for statistics, the gaming history, but I remember I never really liked it 18 years ago or so, was one of the most violent video games back then with the most realistic perspective.

I still remember the fun times when playing with a friend, I was shooting, pressing the correspondent key and he was controlling the movement.
