How to Backup and restore e-mails from Outlook Express?

Go to “Tools”, “Options”, “Maintenance”, “Store folder”, change the path to an external hard drive or a different partition like “D:” or “E:”, where the e-mails can be stored. The path should not stay on “C:”.

All the e-mails from all the created accounts will be stored within those files.

Another thing about Outlook Express. Backups for the accounts (not e-mails) can be created by going to “Tools”, “Accounts”, “Export”, save the .iaf file into the backup folder where the e-mails are stored.

To restore the account, there is the other option from “Tools”, “Accounts”, “Import”, select the .iaf file. There is no need to manually create the account again. It will know the password, ports and other required data.

Doing backups for emails is very important since if Windows will get damaged, the C: partition where the e-mails are being stored by default, will be deleted at a Windows re-install. It is recommended to copy the e-mail files from the modified backup path into an external hard drive in order to keep them safe.
