One of the most known antivirus software for PC, “Avast Antivirus”, has a new recent released version for Android smartphones that can be downloaded for free from Google Play.
This version is in the beta state, it has the basic functions for an antivirus software, a virus scanner that can scan the Android processes that are running, the files from the internal memory of the smartphone and also all the files from the MicroSD card.
The “Virus Scanner” section also has an option to make scheduled automatic scans.
“Privacy Advisor”, will scan the applications that are installed on the smartphone that can retrieve the user’s location and other information related to privacy.
For example, the Twitter application was found that it can track the user’s location.
“Application Management” will display all the current running processes from your Android smartphone. Works like the “Task Manager” from Windows.
“Web Shield” should stay activated all the time, it will protect the user when he is browsing the web against viruses and phishing.
The “Firewall” section of Avast Antivirus can block certain software programs to connect to the Internet, using either the Wi-Fi or the 3G connection. It works like the firewall from Windows.
“Anti Theft” will lock the smartphone in case that it gets stolen or lost. This option requires some advanced settings. Without some strong knowledge of how Android and smartphones are working, you should better skip this option.
Download Avast Antivirus Mobile from here, free, Google Play. The application has only 2 megabytes, it can be used for unlimited time, for free.
After testing the application for almost a week, it didn’t affected the smartphone’s battery at all.
