Canyon, orange webcam, CNR-WCAM913G1, 1.3 megapixel, quality test

If you plan to buy a plain webcam and not a fancy HD one, Canyon CNR-WCAM913G1 is a great choice, for even less than 10 euro. For like 20 euro you can get the HD version of this webcam, the one with the blue case (CNR-WCAM920HD), CNR-WCAM913G1 has an orange case, the 1.3 megapixel version.

Even though the technical specs are indicating 1600 x 1200 as maximum resolution, the webcam can look barely decent when used at 640 x 480 resolution, but it looks great on 320 x 240 or lower values.

To do live streams, 320 x 240 is enough and will almost look HD without noise, 640 x 480 looks good also but the images will have noise. The frame rate is much better than on very cheap – low quality webcams, the image will move smoothly, depending on the intensity of the light, natural or not. Using the webcam for live streams means just having a small area on the screen where the person that is streaming will be displayed.

It can be placed on a desk without any issues, it will stay steady because of the great attaching system.

You can download the drivers for Canyon (orange) webcam CNR-WCAM913G1 from here. Without the driver, the webcam won’t work at all and you won’t be able to use it for anything.

The driver is using AMCAP, a software used for the majority of the webcams that are found on the market, is not a driver with a personalized Canyon interface. For Windows 7, you will find the executable for the webcam software after clicking on the Windows start button, “A4 TECH PC Camera H”.
